International Conference: Specialised Genres. Past, Present and Future
CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
International Conference:
Specialised Genres. Past, Present and Future
Rome, 14-16 April, 2011.
The international conference Specialised Genres. Past, Present and Future will take place in Rome, Italy, at the University of Rome ‘Foro Italico’ (IUSM) on April 14-16, 2011.
The main objective of the conference is to provide a platform for scholars and practitioners to share views on the subject of Genre and genre variation and the way(s) it is manifested in different fields of knowledge and practice.
Genre has been studied extensively, from different perspectives, in the past few decades, but the topic is still of great interest due to the dynamicity and variability of genres. New, highly specialized genres have made their appearance while more traditional ones have undergone modifications and hybridizations when used in combination with new, sophisticated technology such as the internet, i-phones, etc., just to cite a few.
The processes of recycling, recontextualization and/or hybridization resulting into new genres have attracted the linguists’ interest since they have brought about the need for the identification of further, more specialised genre identity traits and new ways of accounting for them.
The main theme of the conference draws on the concept of genre variability as a consequence of new communicative needs and forms of communication. At the same time, it is expected to also throw light on the theoretical and methodological tools applied to account for genre variability and change.
Invited plenary speakers who have confirmed their participation are Vijay K. Bhatia, City University of Hong Kong, and John A. Bateman, University of Bremen.
